Android GX WiFi Display

A simple way to turn any Android device into a wireless GX display

Our GX touch displays are the face of many Victron systems, offering user-friendly monitoring and control. But we know some installations need more flexibility than our standard display options. That’s why we’ve come up with a simple solution that can be easily adapted to your Victron system: the new Android GX WiFi Display.

It’s an app that, once downloaded, turns any Android device into a dedicated GX display. By connecting to the same WiFi network as your GX device, it establishes a wireless link, giving you the freedom to mount a display, or multiple displays, wherever you like within the network range.

Having multiple displays that work independently and without cables can be especially useful in larger installations, for example in a building with several floors or on a yacht with separate compartments.

But it is also useful in tighter installations, like in a boat or a campervan, where runing cables can be tricky. With this app, you can simply mount an Android tablet or an old phone wherever it’s most convenient and enjoy the same monitoring experience as with our GX Touch displays.

Which leads us to the last benefit: the option to repurpose an old Android phone or tablet. Most of us have an old device sitting in a drawer, and this is a great chance to give it a new purpose instead of buying a new display. Just be sure to backup your photos first, then your old device can start a new life as part of your Victron system.

So how does it work?

You can use either an old or a new Android tablet or phone running Android 8.0 or higher. If you are using an old device, it will need to be factory reset first, which will permanently erase all data. Also, if you are repurposing an old device, make sure it still holds a decent charge, or plan to mount it near a power outlet.

Once the app is installed, the Android device becomes a full-time GX display. It will no longer be usable for other tasks and will stay in this mode until you reset it again.

You will find the full setup instructions, including a barcode to download the app, in the manual here. The video below will also give you a clearer idea of how it all works.

We believe this new app will be a practical solution for systems that need more flexibility than our standard solutions. Give it a try and let us know what you think on Victron Community.
