2. Prerequisites
Before configuring Dynamic ESS, check that the system meets the following conditions.
Grid connection and contracts
Permission from the network operator is always required to connect an ESS installation to the grid.
Selling energy to the grid additionally requires an agreed export limit from the network operator and a contract with the energy supplier that permits it.
System configuration
The system must be configured for ESS. For full ESS configuration, see the ESS Design & Installation Manual.
A supported grid meter is required for Dynamic ESS to function correctly, and its role must be configured as a grid meter. For a list of supported grid meters, see the Energy Meters Selection Guide.
The GX device must run Venus OS 3.50 or later.
Note
Dynamic ESS is being continuously improved, so running the latest Venus OS version is recommended.
VRM communication
Two-way communication with the VRM portal must be enabled, so that VRM can send the schedule to the GX device. Confirm that Realtime updates is switched on in the VRM settings. When it is active, the "Last updated" field on the VRM dashboard shows "Realtime" with an animated wave.
If the system includes solar, set the system location in VRM so that Dynamic ESS receives an accurate solar yield forecast based on the location of the site.
Information to gather
Have the following details in hand before starting configuration:
The grid connection specifications.
The battery system specifications.
The terms of the energy contract with the supplier.
