Uninterruptible power for pet care provider

Veterinary clinic prepares for success

Raja Petshop in Surabaya, Indonesia is a pet store, grooming service, and veterinary clinic.

Director, Mr. Budi, has long held the goal of becoming one of the leading pet-care providers in the region in terms of scale, patient compassion and professionalism.

Yet, like many growing businesses in Indonesia they faced a hurdle unrelated to veterinary medicine – unreliable electricity.

Several times a year the business has to deal with power outages which are at best inconvenient, at worst, dangerous. In order to be able to offer his clients guaranteed top quality pet care Mr Budi decided to invest in a solar energy power installation which would ensure an uninterrupted power supply to his business.

Power outages throw the premises into darkness as well as interrupting the availability of X-ray, Ultrasound and Laboratory analysis tools used for diagnosing infections, internal injuries and metabolic anomalies. Without power the investigation shuts down mid-test …the clinic itself cannot be climate-controlled; and worse still, staff are forced to turn away referral cases – in direct conflict with their professional inclination.

Veterinary surgeon Dr. Hanifah Putri Salsabilla explains:
“X-ray requires stable electricity, and when the power goes out, we simply can’t work. This affects not only our schedule but also the animal’s condition—some become anxious when lights go out suddenly.”

In pursuit of excellence in animal care both the management and staff realised it was time for change; they instructed PT. Energi Terbarukan Internasional to design and build a hybrid solar-backup power system capable of running the clinic for up to three hours at full operational load.

The system comprises:

Dr. Hanifah Putri Salsabilla, who is a Veterinary surgeon says:
“I handle 5–10 animals per day, mostly dogs and cats, and rely on electricity for grooming, X-rays and ultrasounds. Before, blackouts stopped our work completely — now everything continues as normal, and the animals remain calm.”

The project had its challenges: PT. Eternal installed the new energy system with minimum interruption to the clinic’s daily work. Sensitive diagnostic equipment needs clean voltage and so seamless switching between the electricity grid and backup power is essential. And because the combined inverter capacity exceeds 10 kW a permit was required from Indonesian electrical safety authorities.

But the challenges were worth it says Mr. Budi, Director of PT Rajapet Pasti Sukses:
“We are proud to be part of Indonesia’s renewable energy movement. The solar system from PT. Eternal helps us maintain operational stability and supports our vision to go green while keeping our clinic running 24/7.

Sustainable energy provision aligns with the values of many of our clients who are young professionals and value eco-friendly businesses and responsible service providers.

“Renewable energy is not only about saving carbon—it’s about giving businesses the resilience to grow.
