What are Assistants?

Think of Assistants as apps, as on a smart phone. Assistants are little applications that run inside a VE.Bus Multi, Inverter or Quattro. They reduce the overall cost of a system: in 99% of all installations it will not be necessary to add an additional PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) to get for example load shedding, optimizing use of solar energy or automatically starting and stopping a genset.

Note: below screenshots are just an example. The same procedure works for other Assistants as well. The used example refers to an Assistant which has later been renamed to PV Inverter support, and is also rarely used on new installations. The Self-consumption Hub-2 Assistant is used instead. It is not necessary, nor possible, to combine it with the PV Inverter support Assistant.

Introduction

Ignoring AC input will force a Multi or Quattro into inverter-mode on certain conditions, even though there is mains or generator power available. For example to force the system to run 100% on battery and solar power.

1. When to use

Use this Assistant in Off-grid systems that have AC-Coupled solar power: a grid-tie PV inverter connected to the AC out of an inverter inverter/charger.

Compatible with Multis, Quattros as well as Inverters that have a VE.Bus connection.

Original text

This policy is intended for backup systems, with DC-coupled solar installed. Use it to make use of excess solar power: as soon as the batteries are full, AC loads will be co-powered with solar power. Power stored in the batteries will only be used to power the loads during a grid failure.
