{"id":5149,"date":"2016-01-01T09:38:52","date_gmt":"2016-01-01T07:38:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/?p=5149"},"modified":"2016-06-27T14:34:05","modified_gmt":"2016-06-27T12:34:05","slug":"dev-raspbian-packages-for-new-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/2016\/01\/01\/dev-raspbian-packages-for-new-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Dev: Raspbian packages for New Year!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While I have been busy playing with a <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/victronenergy\/venus\/wiki\/porting-venus\" target=\"_blank\">BeagleBone Black, and running our CCGX software on it<\/a>, Jeroen (one of the Victron developers working on the CCGX) decided to spend all of his free time and more on making Debian packages, containing the CCGX software. And the first version has been built and is available to install and test-run on your Raspberry Pi!<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>With it, you can use your Pi to remotely monitor a VE.Direct product (MPPT Charge Controller and BMV Battery Monitor) on the <a href=\"https:\/\/vrm.victronenergy.com\" target=\"_blank\">VRM Portal<\/a>, and probably other products as well.<\/p>\n<p>For those already dazzled with the different terms, a short glossary. And note that this blog post is directed to hackers and developers. The packages are not an official Victron product. Put differently: you are more than welcome to try it, and help building it further. But don&#8217;t expect this to be as simple as following a few instructions. Also you need to know your way around a Raspberry Pi, Linux and it&#8217;s terminal.<\/p>\n<p>The glossary:<\/p>\n<p><b>Raspbian <\/b>is a free operating system, based on Debian (a popular Linux distro) running on a Raspberry Pi. See Google for more info<\/p>\n<p>A&nbsp;<b>BeagleBone Black <\/b>is a Single Board Computer, similar to the Raspberry Pi.<\/p>\n<p>And <b>Raspbian&nbsp;packages<\/b>&nbsp;are pre-compiled and easy installable and update-able pieces of software.<\/p>\n<p>To get started with the Raspbian packages read the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/groups.google.com\/forum\/m\/#!topic\/victron-dev-venus\/CzQlEF10biU\" target=\"_blank\">introduction post<\/a>&nbsp;and the <a href=\"https:\/\/groups.google.com\/forum\/m\/#!topic\/victron-dev-venus\/bM9qyicLoEY\" target=\"_blank\">latest post<\/a>&nbsp;on the victron-dev-ccgx mailing list.
