Three generations of the Greber family work here full-time, with around 80 dairy cows, young cattle, goats, and pigs.<br \/>\nIn its ongoing efforts to optimize operations, Der Mooshof wanted to overcome the limitations of its rural power supply and avoid the sometimes serious consequences of power outages. Mooshof&#8217;s two robotic milking systems ensure the cows are milked consistently. It&#8217;s a process that cannot be interrupted without risking udder infections and potentially losing animals. Automatic feeding machinery prepares rations throughout the day. Milk must be cooled immediately; cheese production requires reliable heating, stirring, and refrigeration. There&#8217;s lighting, of course, and power requirement for the background IT infrastructure &#8230;not to mention several family homes which add to the load.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/DSC07970_308624514.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><div class=\"full-size-image container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32430\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/DSC07970_308624514.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/DSC07970_308624514.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/DSC07970_308624514-750x500.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/DSC07970_308624514-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/div><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Until recently, the Mooshof relied on a 50 kWp PV system and grid power, which is limited to 80 kW input\/output power at this location.<br \/>\nSince power outages can cause enormous costs, the Greber family had to regularly operate an emergency power generator \u2013 even short interruptions endanger animals and livelihoods alike.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_32420\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32420\" class=\"wp-image-32420 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/DSC07914_308619848.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/DSC07914_308619848.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/DSC07914_308619848-750x500.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/DSC07914_308619848-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-32420\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><\/div><\/a> Tobias Sohm, Installer<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Greenfuture expanded the existing solar system from 50 kWp to 180 kWp and used roofs and facades to achieve maximum yields even in winter.<br \/>\nA comprehensive modernization of the storage capacities now delivers 500 kWh from a lithium battery bank with 100 Pytes V5 modules \u2013 enough to supply the farm autonomously for up to three days, even in unfavorable weather conditions.<br \/>\nTo circumvent strict grid limits, the Victron system ensures intelligent peak load coverage and an uninterruptible power supply that automatically takes over in less than 20 milliseconds \u2013 fully compatible with existing Fronius, Kostal, and Huawei inverters. The base load is around 15 kW, but can rise to up to 70 kW for seasonal work. This is a decisive step towards total autonomy, which already covers more than 90% of the electricity demand today.<br \/>\nThe resulting energy cost savings of \u20ac30,000 per year will fully amortize the initial investment costs in just a few years.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/1499-1024-17_308619892.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><div class=\"full-size-image container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32424\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/1499-1024-17_308619892.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1499\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/1499-1024-17_308619892.jpg 1499w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/1499-1024-17_308619892-750x512.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/1499-1024-17_308619892-1024x700.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/1499-1024-17_308619892-300x205.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1499px) 100vw, 1499px\" \/><\/div><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The larger system comprises:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>6 \u00d7 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/inverters-chargers\/quattro\" target=\"_blank\">Quattro<\/a> 48\/15000 Inverter\/Charger<\/li>\n<li>6 \u00d7 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/solar-charge-controllers\/smartsolar-mppt-rs-450-tr\" target=\"_blank\">SmartSolar MPPT RS<\/a> 450\/200 Solar Charge Controller<\/li>\n<li>1 \u00d7 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/solar-charge-controllers\/smartsolar-mppt-rs-450-tr\" target=\"_blank\">SmartSolar MPPT RS<\/a> 450\/100 Solar Charge Controller<\/li>\n<li>Integration with existing Fronius, Kostal, and Huawei AC inverters<\/li>\n<li>500 kWh lithium battery storage (100 \u00d7 Pytes V5 modules)<\/li>\n<li>The system is controlled by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/communication-centres\/cerbo-gx\" target=\"_blank\">Cerbo GX<\/a> data communication centre which provides local access to system status and programming via a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/display-and-panels\/gx-touch-50\" target=\"_blank\">GX Touch<\/a>, and access from anywhere in the world via the free-to-use Victron Remote Management platform <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/panel-systems-remote-monitoring\/vrm\" target=\"_blank\">VRM<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/700-1024-16_308619888.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><div class=\"full-size-image container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32421\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/700-1024-16_308619888.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/700-1024-16_308619888.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/700-1024-16_308619888-205x300.jpg 205w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/div><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The second, independent PV system supplies the cheese production building and, after the upgrade, comprises 3 \u00d7 Quattro 48\/15000, 250 kWh batteries, and expanded PV capacity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The generator remains connected and starts automatically as soon as the battery charge level becomes too low.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Greenfuture GmbH is run by brothers Tobias and Fabian Sohm, who literally grew up with photovoltaics. Martin Greber and Franz&#8217;s father have always been close friends.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Greber family had initially looked at other systems, but needed the guarantee of immediate load transfer in the event of a power failure \u2013 without this criterion, the entire project would have been pointless. Today, they proudly demonstrate how it works to visitors by disconnecting the grid and having the Quattros take over in a fraction of a second \u2013 without even a flicker of the lights.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Heat for residential buildings, cheese production, and, when needed, hay drying is provided by a 350 kW wood chip heating system fueled by wood from the farm&#8217;s own forest\u2014an efficient closed-loop system that fits perfectly with the farm&#8217;s sustainable philosophy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/700-1024-10_308620281.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><div class=\"full-size-image container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32428\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/700-1024-10_308620281.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/700-1024-10_308620281.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/12\/700-1024-10_308620281-205x300.jpg 205w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/div><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">From the 300 cowbells that ring every summer when the herd moves up to the high alpine pastures to the state-of-the-art hybrid energy system that powers their work, the Mooshof impressively combines tradition and innovation.
