{"id":31002,"date":"2025-04-18T08:41:06","date_gmt":"2025-04-18T06:41:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/?p=31002"},"modified":"2026-03-05T17:43:35","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T15:43:35","slug":"are-we-there-yet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/2025\/04\/18\/are-we-there-yet\/","title":{"rendered":"Are we there yet?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Because Britain&#8217;s most popular holiday destination, Cornwall, is served by only one road, queues of traffic are inevitable at busy times.<\/p>\n<p>To make matters worse, the road begins as a motorway, falls in status to a dual carriageway &#8230;and finally narrows to an overloaded single carriageway before you&#8217;ve actually arrived anywhere to speak of.<\/p>\n<p>A four-year, \u00a3330M pound project to relieve congestion has recently been completed &#8211; which inevitably brought problems of its own whilst work was ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>In order to mitigate the increased disruption which attends major road improvement schemes, mobile 24 hour CCTV diverted-traffic monitoring was essential &#8230;but how would they be provided with reliable power? Trenching and retrenching grid electricity to them was out of the question because of cost &#8211; as was providing them with diesel generators because <em>National Highways<\/em> (the body responsible for UK strategic roads) operate a Net-Zero Carbon Plan.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/04\/image_288559863.jpeg\" target=\"_blank\"><div class=\"full-size-image container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-31008\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/04\/image_288559863.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"694\" height=\"925\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/04\/image_288559863.jpeg 694w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/04\/image_288559863-225x300.jpeg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 694px) 100vw, 694px\" \/><\/div><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wjsunstone.com\" target=\"_blank\">WJ Sunstone<\/a> provided the solution: Seventeen surveillance cameras powered by the sun and equipped with batteries for energy storage, ensured road safety and site security at live locations over the considerable work-area. Their autonomy allowed them to be deployed and redeployed at constantly changing locations within minutes.<\/p>\n<p>WJ Sunstone&#8217;s Autonomous Remote Communications Unit (ARC) can be fitted with a range of camera types to provide high-definition, thermal and radar images. Typically they use a High-Definition PTZ Camera with a video resolution of 1080p; 32 x Optical Zoom; optimised for Long-Range IR laser illumination for clear night-viewing. Images are monitored remotely using a high speed connection.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/04\/WJ-System-5-Copy_288559881.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><div class=\"full-size-image container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-31009\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/04\/WJ-System-5-Copy_288559881.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1083\" height=\"1445\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/04\/WJ-System-5-Copy_288559881.jpg 1083w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/04\/WJ-System-5-Copy_288559881-750x1001.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/04\/WJ-System-5-Copy_288559881-767x1024.jpg 767w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/04\/WJ-System-5-Copy_288559881-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1083px) 100vw, 1083px\" \/><\/div><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The units are also equipped with public address, local lighting and a geolocation security device to protect them against vandalism and theft.<\/p>\n<h4>What&#8217;s in the box?<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Solar energy from the built-in 800W solar array is harvested by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/solar-charge-controllers\/smartsolar-150-35\" target=\"_blank\">SmartSolar MPPT<\/a> 150\/35 solar charge controller.<\/li>\n<li>During the day energy is stored into a Deep-Cycle AGM 400Ah battery bank which allows twenty-four hour operation &#8211; even at sub-zero temperatures.<\/li>\n<li>In order to avoid the batteries becoming too depleted, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/battery_protect\/smart-battery-protect\" target=\"_blank\">Smart BatteryProtect<\/a> cuts off the power supply in case of low State-of-Charge before the batteries can be damaged.<\/li>\n<li>The power flow is monitored by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/battery-monitors\/smart-battery-shunt\" target=\"_blank\">SmartShunt<\/a> 500A and provides detailed real-time and historic information about the battery status.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/04\/Victron-Internal-ARC-Image_288571714.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><div class=\"full-size-image container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-31017\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/04\/Victron-Internal-ARC-Image_288571714.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"765\" height=\"1020\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/04\/Victron-Internal-ARC-Image_288571714.jpg 765w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/04\/Victron-Internal-ARC-Image_288571714-750x1000.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/04\/Victron-Internal-ARC-Image_288571714-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 765px) 100vw, 765px\" \/><\/div><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/dc-dc-converters\/orion-tr-dc-dc-converters-isolated\" target=\"_blank\">Orion DC\/DC converter<\/a>\u00a0 &#8211; these units are used to provide precise DC voltage to sensitive equipment and for stepping up\/down the battery voltage to the load voltage.<\/li>\n<li>A Color Control GX communication device harmonises the system performance and provides live data to WJ Sunstone engineers &#8211; in this case via a 4G LTE Router\/Gateway &#8211; to the internet based, free-to-use, Victron Remote Management (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/panel-systems-remote-monitoring\/vrm\" target=\"_blank\">VRM<\/a>) platform.
