Power outages also impede hospital communications, interrupt the water supply and, of course, cause a great deal of stress to hospital staff.<\/p>\n<p>Until now the workaround has been to fire-up a diesel generator each time there&#8217;s a blackout- but the costs associated with fuel and maintenance, against a backdrop of already-high grid energy prices &#8211; convinced the management team to investigate a more reliable &#8211; and in the long run, much less expensive, alternative.<\/p>\n<p>The solution presented by the region&#8217;s local Victron Energy distributor and installer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peakpowersolar.com\" target=\"_blank\">Sunshine Peak Power JV<\/a> was a solar based three-phase energy system with a generous battery storage.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/09\/IMG_20230628_163402_239670562-scaled.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-27151\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/09\/IMG_20230628_163402_239670562-1024x461.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"461\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/09\/IMG_20230628_163402_239670562-1024x461.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/09\/IMG_20230628_163402_239670562-1500x675.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/09\/IMG_20230628_163402_239670562-750x337.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/09\/IMG_20230628_163402_239670562-2048x921.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/09\/IMG_20230628_163402_239670562-1536x691.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/09\/IMG_20230628_163402_239670562-300x135.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Everything has changed. The 67 bed hospital now has an uninterruptible power supply twenty-four hours a day; at a consistent and reliable voltage from the pure sine wave inverters &#8211; ensuring that sensitive electronics run faultlessly.<\/p>\n<p>The system designed by Sunshine Peak Power&#8217;s <em>Rakesh Shrestha<\/em> has 118 solar panels arranged in two arrays providing 64kWp to PV inverters configured for three-phase supply.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/09\/IMG_20230707_142805_239647322-scaled.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-27146\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/09\/IMG_20230707_142805_239647322-1024x461.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"461\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/09\/IMG_20230707_142805_239647322-1024x461.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/09\/IMG_20230707_142805_239647322-1500x675.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/09\/IMG_20230707_142805_239647322-750x337.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/09\/IMG_20230707_142805_239647322-2048x921.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/09\/IMG_20230707_142805_239647322-1536x691.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/09\/IMG_20230707_142805_239647322-300x135.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>6 x <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/inverters-chargers\/quattro\" target=\"_blank\">Quattro<\/a> 48\/8000 Inverter\/Chargers allow for a nominal power supply of 48kVA from the battery storage. PV Inverters, and the Victron Energy battery Inverter\/Chargers are synchronised &#8211; ensuring that AC power supply and DC battery-charging is maximised.<\/p>\n<p>The Quattro Inverter\/Chargers work in harmony with the PV Inverters, regulating power harvest and sending surplus solar power to three banks of batteries, each having a capacity of 2,500Ah &#8211; a total energy storage of 360kWh. The batteries can also be re-charged from the electricity grid or from the back-up generator &#8211; if this is ever required.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/panel-systems-remote-monitoring\/cerbo-gx\" target=\"_blank\">Cerbo GX<\/a> communication device allows Victron and third-party devices to work together. It also reports real-time system data to the internet allowing remote monitoring and control from anywhere via the Victron Remote Management (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/panel-systems-remote-monitoring\/vrm\" target=\"_blank\">VRM<\/a>) portal &#8211; The day start with the charging the battery and directly supply solar energy to the hospital loads.
