{"id":26927,"date":"2023-09-01T08:27:01","date_gmt":"2023-09-01T06:27:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/?p=26927"},"modified":"2023-09-01T09:57:25","modified_gmt":"2023-09-01T07:57:25","slug":"driverless-ice-cream","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/2023\/09\/01\/driverless-ice-cream\/","title":{"rendered":"Driverless ice cream?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alright then, <em>nearly<\/em> driverless.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.erni.gmbh\" target=\"_blank\">ERNI<\/a> the all-electric mobile, robotic ice-cream parlour has to be driven to site by a real person &#8211; but once it&#8217;s on location the robotic arm can work alone dispensing mouthwatering glac\u00e9s (and entertainment) for up to five hours.<\/p>\n<p>Reputed to be the world&#8217;s first mobile soft ice-cream robot, it has single-handedly \ud83d\ude44 lifted ice-cream sales to new heights in its native Austria.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s fun, too. Perfectly-twirled ice-creams are served up following a series of immaculately-choreographed actions carried out by ERNI&#8217;s robotic arm &#8211; which is actually a production line device made by the Electrification and Automation division of tech giant <a href=\"https:\/\/new.abb.com\/products\/robotics\/de\/roboter\/kollaborative-roboter\/crb-15000\" target=\"_blank\">ABB<\/a> known as the GoFa\u2122 CRB 15000. The ice-cream dispenser is a GelMatic BC Easy 2 PM.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/08\/Deckblatt-Insta_237255172.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-26945\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/08\/Deckblatt-Insta_237255172-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/08\/Deckblatt-Insta_237255172-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/08\/Deckblatt-Insta_237255172-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/08\/Deckblatt-Insta_237255172-750x750.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/08\/Deckblatt-Insta_237255172-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/08\/Deckblatt-Insta_237255172.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Customers, some of whom may be children, do not need to be screened from the robotic arm as it will stop if ever it senses even the tiniest obstruction whilst it&#8217;s concentrating on preparing ice creams which are accurate to less than 0.2mm!<\/p>\n<p>The vehicle which carries the ice-cream shop is a <em>Piaggio Ape <\/em>from which the petrol engine has been removed to be replaced by a 48V electric motor.<\/p>\n<p>The resulting unit is a stylish non-polluting retro three-wheeler which is climate-friendly and licensable to operate within urban zero-emission zones. Its roof and side panels carry PV cells which when raised into position form a convenient canopy for customers.<\/p>\n<p>Devices used throughout the power installation have been thoughtfully located by the ERNI team to maximise use of the limited space available on the Piaggio Ape. Pre-alarms can be enabled as push-notifications straight to a smartphone. The Lynx Smart BMS monitors battery state of charge, of course, and can also shut down the system, remotely &#8211; in this case by use of the vehicle&#8217;s &#8216;ignition&#8217; key.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/dc-distribution-systems\/lynx-distributor\" target=\"_blank\">Lynx distribution<\/a> system keeps DC wiring safe and tidy, and offers a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/inverters-chargers\/multiplus-ii\" target=\"_blank\">MultiPlus II 48\/5000<\/a> inverter chargers have been installed, configured to provide 10kVA<\/li>\n<li>Power harvest from the three solar panels which offer just under 1kWp is controlled by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/solar-charge-controllers\/smartsolar-150-35\" target=\"_blank\">SmartSolar 150\/35<\/a>\u00a0solar charge controller.<\/li>\n<li>An Orion Tr 48\/12 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/dc-dc-converters\/orion-24-12-5-10\" target=\"_blank\">DC\/DC converter<\/a> allows the vehicle&#8217;s standard electrics (lights, wipers etc) to run from the main 48V DC battery configuration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/panel-systems-remote-monitoring\/gx-touch-50\" target=\"_blank\">GX Touch 50<\/a> can be used for managing and monitoring the system, href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/panel-systems-remote-monitoring\/vrm\" target=\"_blank\">VRM<\/a> platform makes it possible to monitor all data &#8211; both &#8216;live&#8217; and historic &#8211; and the position of ERNI, so that even when operating larger fleets, a single person can very easily keep track of the operating circumstances of all vehicles.<\/p>\n<div autonomously for up to five hours. If a longer vending time is needed a battery recharge can be taken from a mains supply or by use of an EV charging station.<\/p>\n<p>When the available grid connection is a low-current rated supply it&#8217;s possible to set a current-limit on the MultiPlus-II (as with all Victron Inverter\/Chargers) so that the annoyance of continual supply-fuse tripping at the source energy will not occur.<\/p>\n<h4>Green Credentials<\/h4>\n<p>ERNI&#8217;s refrigeration plant runs silently, as far as possible using sustainable energy from its PV panels.
