{"id":24583,"date":"2022-05-27T09:14:21","date_gmt":"2022-05-27T07:14:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/?p=24583"},"modified":"2025-08-04T15:15:17","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T13:15:17","slug":"alpine-e-bikers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/2022\/05\/27\/alpine-e-bikers\/","title":{"rendered":"Alpine E-bikers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The cycle route known as\u00a0V\u00e9loroute V63, in Pays Voironnais, has become the latest recreational destination to benefit from the roll-out of Solar Powered E-bike charging stations in France.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The V63 is a popular cycle route because everybody uses it: Families, Friends, Professional Athletes, Work colleagues and Children have fun at different times of the day, and week &#8211; breathing in the fresh air or commuting to work.<\/p>\n<div class=\"lead\">\n<p>Found at the gateway to the Alps, it runs between <em>Voreppe<\/em> and <em>Tullins<\/em> along the wooded valleys of the Is\u00e8re; and there&#8217;s plenty of wildlife &#8211; particularly among the river-islands where gulls and cormorant rest.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">But it is where <em>people<\/em> &#8216;rest&#8217; that the electric bike charging station has been established, in the service and picnic area at Moirans.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-24597\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/05\/Screenshot-2022-05-24-at-17.31.40_197256739-1024x591.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"591\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/05\/Screenshot-2022-05-24-at-17.31.40_197256739-1024x591.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/05\/Screenshot-2022-05-24-at-17.31.40_197256739-1500x865.png 1500w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/05\/Screenshot-2022-05-24-at-17.31.40_197256739-750x433.png 750w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/05\/Screenshot-2022-05-24-at-17.31.40_197256739-1536x886.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/05\/Screenshot-2022-05-24-at-17.31.40_197256739-300x173.png 300w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/05\/Screenshot-2022-05-24-at-17.31.40_197256739.png 1800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The charging stations are built by <a href=\"https:\/\/ecoload.fr\" target=\"_blank\">Ecoload<\/a> who have now established 25 similar utilities across France. Depending on their location and whether or not there is access to grid power the installations consist either of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/solar-pv-panels\/bluesolar-panels\" target=\"_blank\">Solar panel<\/a> 360W-24V Mono<\/li>\n<li>MPPT <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/solar-charge-controllers\/mppt7510\" target=\"_blank\">BlueSolar Charge controller<\/a> &#8211; between 75\/15 to 250\/60<\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/inverters\/phoenix-inverter-compact\" target=\"_blank\">Phoenix Inverter<\/a> 24\/1200 to 48\/3000 &#8211; or in the case of a grid tied installation a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/inverters-chargers\/multiplus-ii\" target=\"_blank\">MultiPlus II<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Battery storage employs a 12V\/125Ah <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/batteries\/gel-and-agm-batteries\" target=\"_blank\">AGM Super Cycle<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Optional remote monitoring is offered to clients in which case the installation will also include a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/panel-systems-remote-monitoring\/cerbo-gx\" target=\"_blank\">Cerbo GX<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; which monitors the whole installation &#8211; and a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/communication-centres\/gx-gsm\" target=\"_blank\">GX GSM<\/a>\u00a0which will provide a connection to the cellular network where data can be accessed and stored via the free-to-use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/panel-systems-remote-monitoring\/vrm\" target=\"_blank\">VRM<\/a> (Victron Remote Management) platform<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Typically\u00a0the capacity of an e-bike battery is 500Wh so although each station is capable of charging between 6 and 12 ebikes from 0 to 100%, in practise users do not wait until their battery is empty &#8211; so the typical power output per charge in these stations is around 250Wh, allowing 10 or 20 e-bikes to be recharged in a day (depending on the battery storage chosen) even if there were no power from PV.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The V63 development was supported and financed by the <em>Auvergne Rh\u00f4ne-Alpes Region<\/em>; the <em>Department of Is\u00e8re<\/em>; and the <em>Pays Voironnais;<\/em>\u00a0who work together as the Communaut\u00e9 de communes du Pays Voironnais.<u><\/u><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ecoload supported their clients to make the best choices. Before this installation was established it was impossible to charge an e-bike on this cycle route due to the absence of grid electricity, causing a real problem for tourists and workers &#8211; that\u2019s why the <em>Communaut\u00e9 de communes du Pays Voironnais<\/em> \u00a0decided to establish this Teepee solar charging station as a public service.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-24586\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/05\/Cabanavelo-lac_197254921-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/05\/Cabanavelo-lac_197254921-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/05\/Cabanavelo-lac_197254921-1500x1000.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/05\/Cabanavelo-lac_197254921-750x500.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/05\/Cabanavelo-lac_197254921-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/05\/Cabanavelo-lac_197254921-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/05\/Cabanavelo-lac_197254921.jpg 1620w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ecoload was the brainchild of 3 engineers passionate about mountain biking, and wanting to prolong the pleasure of the ride &#8211; whilst preserving the ecology of the mountains. They say: <em>All our charging stations are efficient, but also eco-designed with the greatest respect for the environment, made from durable materials that are as recyclable as possible, integrating harmoniously in the mountains and in the city, and allowing you to enjoy good times in wilderness.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em>Our products are developed, assembled, tested, integrated and maintained by our team whose\u00a0know-how ensures quality of service with rapid on-site intervention if necessary, for troubleshooting or maintenance.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ecoload developed their first station with the support of Thierry Cortassa \u00a0(Victron Energy Sales Manager for France in 2017) with successful on-site trials that summer.
