Power distortion has been measured at up to 54%, with the result that it is simply not possible to sustain the operation of sensitive medical equipment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/10\/anesthesia-machine-Operation-room-Ubari-general-hospital-_179187757.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><div class=\"full-size-image container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23613\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/10\/anesthesia-machine-Operation-room-Ubari-general-hospital-_179187757.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"597\" height=\"553\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/10\/anesthesia-machine-Operation-room-Ubari-general-hospital-_179187757.jpg 597w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/10\/anesthesia-machine-Operation-room-Ubari-general-hospital-_179187757-300x278.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px\" \/><\/div><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Neither were the difficulties with power supply limited to faults with the national electricity grid: during blackouts power was provided by overworked generators which would often fail after 10 or 12 hours &#8211; either because of mechanical problems, or they simply ran out of fuel. The results of these failures can only be imagined.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, many readers will be surprised to learn that in the smaller cities of the south, whenever someone presented at hospital &#8211; for an operation, or for the birth of a child &#8211; family members would arrive at the facility carrying 200 litres of fuel so as to ensure that the power didn&#8217;t fail during their loved-one&#8217;s medical procedure.\u00a0In these cities, everyone knows everyone else, so it became normal practise to phone the hospital ahead of a patient&#8217;s arrival, and ask: &#8216;What do you need in order to function properly?&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Even\u00a0regular calendared life-saving procedures such as kidney dialysis could not be guaranteed to be delivered safely and successfully.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/10\/Abusleim-Hospital-PV-Arrays-37.5kwp-_179190705-scaled.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-23614\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/10\/Abusleim-Hospital-PV-Arrays-37.5kwp-_179190705-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/10\/Abusleim-Hospital-PV-Arrays-37.5kwp-_179190705-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/10\/Abusleim-Hospital-PV-Arrays-37.5kwp-_179190705-1500x1000.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/10\/Abusleim-Hospital-PV-Arrays-37.5kwp-_179190705-750x500.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/10\/Abusleim-Hospital-PV-Arrays-37.5kwp-_179190705-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/10\/Abusleim-Hospital-PV-Arrays-37.5kwp-_179190705-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/10\/Abusleim-Hospital-PV-Arrays-37.5kwp-_179190705-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>All that has now changed in fifteen important hospitals thanks to solar based energy installations carried out by the country&#8217;s largest solar power installer.\u00a0The project was funded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.undp.org\" target=\"_blank\">UNDP<\/a>, the contractor is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsolenergy.com\" target=\"_blank\">Gsol Energy<\/a> and their partner in Libya <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insiab-calculator.com\" target=\"_blank\">Insiab.<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Ubari General Hospital<\/h4>\n<p>Ubari General Hospital has a typical installation and benefits from:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>200 PV panels providing 50kWp<\/li>\n<li>2 x Fronius Primo 8.2kW inverters benefit from 18kWp of the solar array &#8211; providing single phase power demands, whilst surplus power is directed to battery storage via:<\/li>\n<li>2 x <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/inverters-chargers\/quattro\" target=\"_blank\">Quattro 48\/10000<\/a>. Daytime consumption is easily met, and there is a reserve capacity in the battery of 80kWh.<\/p>\n<h4>Reliable<\/h4>\n<p>This programme of installing secure power began in 2017 \u2013 the passage of time has proven the\u00a0installations to be 100% reliable in all cases. So successful, in fact, that not only are necessary\u00a0power requirements in the Intensive Care Unit , Operating Room and Emergency Room are met, but the installations can be reprogrammed to\u00a0provide power back to the grid \u2013 improving reliability for other users.<\/p>\n<p>Insiab Libya Solar pride themselves on the professional standard of their installations using world class electronics, installed by highly trained engineers. A recent project to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Insiablibyasolar\/videos\/598511911464145\" target=\"_blank\">light the streets in the city of Sabha<\/a> has seen the installation of over 1000 solar streetlamps &#8211; a project which has been successful on many levels: unlit streets provide opportunities for crime &#8211; such as kidnapping, which is prevalent in the city &#8211; and also an excessive number of road accidents which result simply because drivers cannot not see the dangers around them, resulting too often in serious injury and death. The street lighting project has changed the environment completely; people now feel safe when walking the street.
