From deep in the interior of the region they produce Fish and Lamb. Filtered and aerated water is needed to provide a clean, healthy environment for the twenty-six fish ponds; and the &#8216;soiled&#8217; water is used to irrigate and fertilize the land, encouraging grass growth, and feeding the Sheep. Circular agronomy.<\/p>\n<p>Until recently water was pumped around the farm using a 30kVA diesel generator. The operating and maintenance costs were high and &#8211; because of fluctuating oil prices &#8211; unpredictable. Generator breakdowns threatened the very survival of the stock &#8211; and so keeping profitable was a constant headache.<\/p>\n<p>With the generator running for 10 hours a day &#8211; consuming 3000 litres of diesel per month at a cost equivalent to $1 (US) per litre &#8211; there was a $3,000 monthly bill to add to all the worry.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/05\/IMG_0698_133382081-scaled.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-20250\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/05\/IMG_0698_133382081-1024x611.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"611\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/05\/IMG_0698_133382081-1024x611.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/05\/IMG_0698_133382081-1500x895.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/05\/IMG_0698_133382081-750x448.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/05\/IMG_0698_133382081-2048x1222.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/05\/IMG_0698_133382081-1536x917.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/05\/IMG_0698_133382081-768x458.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/05\/IMG_0698_133382081-300x179.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Sun was the Solution<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Seeking to offer a more efficient private energy supply for the farm, <a href=\"https:\/\/sunhybrid.com.br\" target=\"_blank\">SunHybrid do Brasil<\/a> designed and installed an off-grid power system based on PV panels. All pumps, motors, lighting and office equipment for\u00a0the farm is now powered by their photovoltaic solar generator.<\/p>\n<p>The 120 solar panel array offers a 32kW peak power provision which is harvested by five <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/solar-charge-controllers\/smartsolar-250-85-250-100\" target=\"_blank\">Smart Solar 250\/100<\/a> MPPTs and stored in 24 Opz tubular batteries with a total capacity of 1520Ah. The battery voltage; state of charge; current in and out, and history is monitored and stored by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/battery-monitors\/bmv-702\" target=\"_blank\">BMV 702<\/a> battery monitor. This information is available at a glance on the face of the BMV; otherwise, information relating to the whole system can be interrogated from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/panel-systems-remote-monitoring\/color-control\" target=\"_blank\">Color Control GX<\/a> which is the communication hub, keeping everything in harmony.<\/p>\n<p>From the <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">Tambaqui<\/span>\u00a0farm&#8217;s remote location the Color Control GX also relays its information via a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/communication-centres\/gx-gsm\" target=\"_blank\">wifi module<\/a>\u00a0to the free-to-use Victron Remote Management VRM platform &#8211; from where the system can be monitored by the installing engineers who can answer client-questions and make adjustments without visiting site.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/05\/Screenshot-2020-05-21-at-09.54.57_133897409.png\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-20301\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/05\/Screenshot-2020-05-21-at-09.54.57_133897409-1024x454.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"454\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/05\/Screenshot-2020-05-21-at-09.54.57_133897409-1024x454.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/05\/Screenshot-2020-05-21-at-09.54.57_133897409-2048x908.png 2048w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/05\/Screenshot-2020-05-21-at-09.54.57_133897409-1536x681.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/05\/Screenshot-2020-05-21-at-09.54.57_133897409-768x341.png 768w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/05\/Screenshot-2020-05-21-at-09.54.57_133897409-300x133.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>AC power is available from three 15kVA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/inverters-chargers\/quattro\" target=\"_blank\">Quattro<\/a> Inverter\/chargers &#8211; currently the largest units in the Victron range, here they have been configured to provide three-phase power. Power provision overnight comes from the tubular plate battery storage system &#8211; which also take over the power supply during periods of poor weather. There is also an aquarium for the fry &#8211; or baby fish &#8211; which is circulated and aerated twenty four hours per day. The system, as designed, includes two back-up generators which could be auto-started by a relay &#8211; but the farm owner M\u00e1rio Mascarenhas had such faith in the new system that he decided that he didn&#8217;t want to include the generators. He was right &#8211; he has never had any problem with lack of energy.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00e1rio is pleased to have invested in a clean source of energy, reduced his carbon emissions, introduced peace and quiet &#8211; and is delighted to be free from the worries of fluctuating oil prices. The system cost is expected to be recouped within 3 years &#8211; and with operating costs under control and predictable, he finds that the farm is more profitable.<\/p>\n<p>He says: <em>The activities of our farm are always focused on sustainability. We work to conserve nature, and resources, by refraining from burning diesel oil.
