The model range is suitable for 12V or 24V systems, and both lead acid and lithium batteries.<\/p>\n<h3>Why do we need Smart DC-DC chargers?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The reasons are best explained by this recently published blog: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/2019\/10\/07\/careful-alternator-charging-lithium\/\" target=\"_blank\">Careful \u2013 Alternator Charging Lithium (or how to not blow up your alternator)<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Learn about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.12voltplanet.co.uk\/auxiliary-battery-charging-in-vehicles-with-smart-alternators.html\" target=\"_blank\">&#8216;Smart&#8217; Alternators and Auxiliary Battery Charging<\/a> with Victron Energy retailer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.12voltplanet.co.uk\/search\/for\/victron\/\" target=\"_blank\">12 Volt Planet<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Typical (smart) alternator system<\/h5>\n<p>Here&#8217;s an outline schematic of a typical (smart) alternator vehicle or boat charging system, using the Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC charger, with a lead acid starter battery and a lithium auxiliary battery &#8211; along with control and monitoring via VictronConnect.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/10\/Orion-Tr-Smart-system-schematic_114025682.png\" target=\"_blank\"><div class=\"full-size-image container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18221 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/10\/Orion-Tr-Smart-system-schematic_114025682.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"693\" height=\"567\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/10\/Orion-Tr-Smart-system-schematic_114025682.png 693w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/10\/Orion-Tr-Smart-system-schematic_114025682-300x245.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 693px) 100vw, 693px\" \/><\/div><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Orion-Tr Smart Chargers Isolated model range<\/h3>\n<h5>220 &#8211; 280 Watt<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>12\/12-18 (220W)<\/li>\n<li>12\/24-10 (240W)<\/li>\n<li>24\/12-20 (240W)<\/li>\n<li>24\/24-12 (280W)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>360 &#8211; 400 Watt<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>12\/12-30 (360W)<\/li>\n<li>12\/24-15 (360W)<\/li>\n<li>24\/12-30 (360W)<\/li>\n<li>24\/24-17 (400W)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Unlimited multiple units can be connected in parallel to increase output power and they are suited for high temperature operation up to 55\u00b0C, with a full rated output up to 40\u00b0C.<\/p>\n<p>The Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC charger range can be monitored and programmed via Bluetooth, using the free <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/live\/victronconnect:start\" target=\"_blank\">VictronConnect<\/a> app. Whilst you might expect it to report current &#8211; the Orion-Tr Smart is not currently designed to measure it, although that is something to be worked on for future versions.
