The navigation and communication station includes:<\/p>\n<p>Raymarine e95 MFD plotter<br \/>\nWind, Log and Depth data on Raymarine displays, 2 x i70s, 1 x i60 Wind , 1 x ST60 Wind and 1 x i70<br \/>\nRaymarine Evolution Autopilot with linear drive<br \/>\nRaymarine RN300 GPS<br \/>\nRaymarine RAY 54E VHF<br \/>\nAIS Trueheading CTRX Carbon+<br \/>\nShipModul MiniPlex \u2013 2Wi<br \/>\n4G Router<\/p>\n<p>Additionally there is a low-power refrigeration unit; an 800W foredeck windlass &#8211; and a 1000W stern windlass, both of which would be used only occasionally, with the engine running. There&#8217;s a water heater which can be electrically-powered but is plumbed into the engine&#8217;s water cooling circulation. There&#8217;s an\u00a0Ebersp\u00e4cher diesel heater, too, which has an electric fan drawing between 7 and 40 Watts &#8211; depending on blow-speed.<\/p>\n<p>Liv&#8217;s power supply, control and storage comprises:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>320 Ah LiFeYPO4 lithium batteries<\/li>\n<li>Victron <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/battery-monitors\/bmv-712-smart\" target=\"_blank\">BMV-712<\/a> battery monitor<\/li>\n<li>Victron SmartSolar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/solar-charge-controllers\/smartsolar-mppt-75-10-75-15-100-15-100-20\" target=\"_blank\">MPPT 75\/15<\/a><\/li>\n<li>55W Solara M-Series Solar Panel (planned to increase to 800W)<\/li>\n<li>Balmar 120A alternator<\/li>\n<li>Victron <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/inverters-chargers\/multi-500-va\" target=\"_blank\">MultiPlus 1600VA<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/2019-07-15-16.10.23_111355258.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-blogpost-single wp-image-17779 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/2019-07-15-16.10.23_111355258-750x563.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/2019-07-15-16.10.23_111355258-750x563.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/2019-07-15-16.10.23_111355258-1500x1125.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/2019-07-15-16.10.23_111355258-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/2019-07-15-16.10.23_111355258-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/2019-07-15-16.10.23_111355258-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jonas prefers manual intervention and monitoring of his system. Here, in his own words, is how he has set it up:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080\">(I&#8217;ve taken the liberty of re-phrasing some of his words. Any resulting errors are my own.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>By connecting a relay cable from the battery monitor to the switch of the ML-RBS remote battery switch, I can trigger the ML-RBS to disconnect the battery if the BMV-712 measures an overvoltage <b>or undervoltage<\/b> event on the battery bank.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<!-- iframe plugin v.6.0 wordpress.org\/plugins\/iframe\/ -->\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/c41ONtokIrA?start=10\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" width=\"100%\" height=\"500\" scrolling=\"yes\" class=\"iframe-class\"><\/iframe>\n\n<p><em>For simplicity I ran the wire from the battery monitor to the remote switch instead of to the battery switch. I got a couple of questions from a facebook group \u00a0(which I recommend: https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/427372107686109\/) about my wiring. Here they are if you&#8217;re interested:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Always-on bus bar -&gt; BMV-712 (COM)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>BMV-712 (NC) -&gt; Contura Remote switch (Pin 1)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Since I am using the ML-RBS 7700 I am not employing inverted settings on the BMV-712 and the NC (Normally Closed) relay connection from the BMV-712 to the Contura switch.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>If the over-voltage relay is triggered, I have to re-connect the battery manually at the remote battery switch. It doesn&#8217;t happen automatically &#8211; but I figured that if an over-voltage event is triggered, I want to investigate before re-connection is made.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>BMV settings<\/h2>\n<p><em>The BMV-712 needs some specific settings when you use the BMV with Lithium batteries since they have a much higher charge efficiency.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Some friends have been using Pukert exponent 1.03 and Charge efficiency factor: 98% with excellent results for their lithium Winston cells or Winston 12V batteries. These settings are slightly different from the recommended settings from Victron. So I&#8217;m going to start with the recommended settings from Victron and see if I need to adjust them over time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Current settings on the Victron BMV-712<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Battery capacity: 320Ah<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Charge voltage: 14.0V<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Tail current: 4.00%<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Charged detection time: 3m<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Pukert exponent: 1.05<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Charge efficiency factor: 99%<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Current threshold: 0.10A<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Time-to-go averaging period: 10m<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Relay mode: Default<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Invert relay: Off<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Minimum closed time: 0m<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Relay-off delay: 0m<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Low SOC relay<del> <\/del>On: 5%, Off: 6%<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Low voltage relay: On: 11.6V, Off 11.7V<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>High voltage relay On: 14.6V, Off 14.2V<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Alarm buzzer: on<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Low SOC alarm On: 10%, Off: 12%<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Low voltage alarm On 12.6V, Off: 12.7V<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>High voltage alarm On: 14.5V, Off: 14.2V<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Mounting and configuring MultiPlus inverter\/charger<\/h2>\n<p><em>I prepared the mounting and wiring for the MultiPlus. The only thing that remained was to program it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The mounting is not ideal in a cabinet as there might be some issues with cooling. I don\u2019t expect to use either the inverter or the charger for long periods &#8211; but I will have to monitor the temperature.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/multiplus_111356306.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-blogpost-single wp-image-17787 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/multiplus_111356306-750x1000.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"1000\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/multiplus_111356306-750x1000.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/multiplus_111356306-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/multiplus_111356306-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/multiplus_111356306.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>There are some dip-switches on the MultiPlus which enable some settings but don&#8217;t offer the charge profile that I want to use. The MultiPlus charge profile for lithium using dip-switches would set the absorption to 14.1 V and the float to 13.8 V &#8211; which is too high for my preference. Neither can I set the charge curve with the dip switches.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I bought a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/accessories\/ve-direct-to-usb-interface\" target=\"_blank\">USB to VE.Bus converter<\/a> which allows me to make my own settings using Victron&#8217;s VE Configure software &#8211; because I might fiddle with the settings after some testing and adjust them over time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The current settings used after configuring the MultiPlus using VE.Bus are:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Lithium batteries: Checked<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Use equalization: Not checked<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Charge curve: Fixed<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Absorption voltage: 13.80 V<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Float voltage: 13.30 V<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Charge current: 37 A<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Repeated absorption time: 1 Hr<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Repeated absorption interval: 14.00 Days<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Absorption time: 1 Hr<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>These settings will make the battery pack stay below and never reach 100 % SOC &#8211; but that is something that I prefer. It will also disable the Float charge cycle since the float setting is too low to start. Neither charging to 100 % of SOC or using Float is something that I want.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Configuring MPPT<\/h2>\n<p><em>I had already installed the MPPT. Since the SmartSolar MPPT 75\/15 connects to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/live\/victronconnect:start\" target=\"_blank\">VictronConnect<\/a> app via Bluetooth, it\u2019s effortless to configure the settings on the MPPT.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Current settings on the SmartSolar MPPT 75\/15<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Absorption voltage: 13.90V<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Maximum absorption time: 6h 0m<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Float voltage: 13.20<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Equalization voltage: 0.00V<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Temperature compensation: Disabled<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Low temperature cut-off: 10.0\u00b0C<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Finally, because I don&#8217;t want the Charger permanently &#8216;on&#8217; when connected to shore power &#8230;and neither do I want the Inverter to be permanently &#8216;on&#8217; &#8211; drawing stand-by power &#8211; when it&#8217;s not in use, I wanted to have an easy way to turn the unit on and off.
