{"id":16790,"date":"2019-06-30T16:34:21","date_gmt":"2019-06-30T14:34:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/?p=16790"},"modified":"2019-06-30T16:34:21","modified_gmt":"2019-06-30T14:34:21","slug":"tu-delft-solar-boat-team-manage-a-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/2019\/06\/30\/tu-delft-solar-boat-team-manage-a-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"TU Delft Solar Boat Team manage a crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/solarboatteam.nl\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\">TU Delft Solar Boat Team<\/a> &#8211; the young Dutch engineers with big ambitions for competitive solar boat racing &#8211; have been experiencing difficulties with their boat&#8217;s software for electronic management.<\/p>\n<p>Having solved those problems, and whilst out\u00a0on the IJsselmeer water running tests,\u00a0after only a short distance their craft hit an underwater obstruction and sustained severe damage &#8211; immediately ending further planned test-runs for the day. The incident happened with just 9 days to go before their most important competition of the year &#8211; the<a href=\"https:\/\/mcsebc.org\" target=\"_blank\"> Solar &amp; Energy Boat Challenge<\/a>\u00a0which takes place in Monaco, between the 2nd and 6th of July.<\/p>\n<p>Following an out-of-the-water inspection the damage was found to be quite extensive: in addition to a missing hydrofoil, there was impact damage to the propellor blades in a number of places.<\/p>\n<p>The severity of this setback would be sufficient to scupper the dreams of most people &#8211; but not TU Delft Solar Boat Team! In spite of the damage occurring little more than a week before their biggest event they are absolutely determined to take part in the race.
