But at 18 degrees South, seven or eight hours of sunshine per day is typical throughout the year &#8211; making Solar energy an obvious choice \u00a0for islanders who wish to overcome any breakdown in grid-electricity supply.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>With 300 islands scattered over its pristine clear waters, reflecting blue skies, access to the public grid has some obvious limitations in Fiji. Due to high energy demands, certain areas of the main islands experience occasional blackouts or brownouts. For some, energy back-up is essential. That&#8217;s where <a href=\"http:\/\/solarfiji.org\" target=\"_blank\">Solar Fiji<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; a renewable energy company based in Nasinu, Suva, on the beautiful tropical islands of Fiji &#8211; step in. To meet local demand they employ five technicians who have been trained on the island, and at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/greenpowerco.com.au\" target=\"_blank\">The Green Power Company<\/a>\u00a0HQ in Melbourne Australia.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/04\/Morris-Resident_99203496.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-blogpost-content wp-image-15866\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/04\/Morris-Resident_99203496-690x512.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"690\" height=\"512\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/04\/Morris-Resident_99203496-690x512.jpg 690w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/04\/Morris-Resident_99203496-730x542.jpg 730w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/04\/Morris-Resident_99203496-1024x760.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/04\/Morris-Resident_99203496-768x570.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/04\/Morris-Resident_99203496-300x223.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Morris&#8217; residence on the western side of the main island, for example, occasionally experience unexpected blackouts which disrupts their work, and their lifestyle. Not any more. One of <em>Solar Fiji&#8217;s<\/em> most recent installations, the family have recently provided themselves with an independent power provision which will allow them to enjoy an uninterrupted power supply.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0Victron Quattro 48\/8000 inverter charger has been chosen to meet the family&#8217;s occasional high power demand which might otherwise cause a trip to occur when any heavy-loads are turned on. Quattro&#8217;s\u00a0<em>PowerAssist<\/em> feature allows battery power to be added to grid power offering a Peak Power Capability of 16kW &#8230;it&#8217;s hard to imagine what it\u00a0<em>can&#8217;t\u00a0<\/em>do.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/04\/Men-at-work_99203488-e1555358771408.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-blogpost-content wp-image-15865\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/04\/Men-at-work_99203488-690x678.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"690\" height=\"678\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Morris&#8217; installation consists of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>12 x <a href=\"http:\/\/greenpowerco.com.au\/products\/solar-pv-panels\/qcells\/qcells-q-plus-bfr-g4-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">270W QCells Solar Panel<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/solar-charge-controllers\" target=\"_blank\">2 x Victron MPPT charge controller 150\/45<\/a><\/li>\n<li>1 x <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/panel-systems-remote-monitoring\/color-control\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Victron Color Control GX<\/a><\/li>\n<li>1 x <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/batteries\/battery-balancer\" target=\"_blank\">Victron Battery Balancer<\/a><\/li>\n<li>1 x <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/panel-systems-remote-monitoring\/bmv-700\" target=\"_blank\">Victron Battery Monitor BMV<\/a><\/li>\n<li>1 x <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/inverters-chargers\/quattro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Victron Quattro 48V 8000W<\/a><\/li>\n<li>8 x <a href=\"http:\/\/greenpowerco.com.au\/products\/batteries\/narada\/narada-12htb100\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">12V 100Ah Narada High Temperature Battery<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By installing a grid connected solar (PV) energy supply, electricity reliability increases to 100%, silently, and without burning fossil fuels.
