The recently released version of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/panel-systems-remote-monitoring\/victronconnect\" target=\"_blank\">VictronConnect App<\/a> now includes an update for Victron Energy&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/batteries\/lithium-battery-12-8v\" target=\"_blank\">Lithium Smart batteries (12.8V &amp; 25.6V)<\/a>. The update (via the app) now wisely disables the charge when the battery cell temperature is below 5 degrees C, as charging at lower temperatures accelerates battery degradation.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>You will note the datasheet says:<\/p>\n<p>Operating temperature &#8211; Discharge: -20\u00b0C to +50\u00b0C and Charge: +5\u00b0C to +50\u00b0C.<\/p>\n<p>In other words +5\u00b0C is the minimum required temperature for charging.<\/p>\n<p>With the new VictronConnect,\u00a0Lithium Smart batteries will now automatically be updated. If they were charged at that or lower &#8211; and whilst they may appear to be charging normally &#8211; permanent damage would be done. Lithium Smart Battery update (set to default) ensures that is not a possibility.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst some people may wish to charge below the default +5\u00b0C or in an emergency and although the app will allow such actions &#8211; this clearly voids any warranty you may have.
