Imagine entering a 55km solar powered speed boat race and finishing the course an-hour-and-ten-minutes ahead of your nearest rival!<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>It was a sunny calm day for the race &#8211; ideal conditions for vessel&#8217;s powered by the sun. The <a href=\"http:\/\/furiaone.nl\" target=\"_blank\">CLAFIS Victron Energy Solar Boat<\/a> flew around the course, at Akkrum, in the Netherlands, last weekend (11th-13th May) at an average speed of 35km\/h. With no sign of the other competitors, there must have been times when skipper Gerard van de Schaar\u00a0wondered if had taken a wrong-turn.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/05\/603912_574081145990199_170677164_n_70309282.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-13046\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/05\/603912_574081145990199_170677164_n_70309282.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"690\" height=\"690\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/05\/603912_574081145990199_170677164_n_70309282.jpg 470w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/05\/603912_574081145990199_170677164_n_70309282-60x60.jpg 60w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/05\/603912_574081145990199_170677164_n_70309282-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/05\/603912_574081145990199_170677164_n_70309282-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Day two hosted a relay event whereby a runner, having completed 1.7km on foot, &#8216;tags&#8217; the solar boat which then has to complete a 1.2km sprint around the town of Akkrum &#8211; Akkrum, for those among us who are not aware of Netherland infrastructure, is surrounded by water, and looks like this:<a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/05\/image002_70309597.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-13047\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/05\/image002_70309597.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"690\" height=\"376\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/05\/image002_70309597.jpg 518w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/05\/image002_70309597-300x163.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The third and final day of racing was a sprint of 350 metres. This allows competitors to show-off their craft&#8217;s abilities!
