The challenge was to give the building a make-over, suitable for ultra-modern offices &#8211; powered by solar energy \u00a0&#8230;and yet change nothing of the building&#8217;s fabric. \u00a0Here is the A$7M result:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Indoors, an informal and inclusive atmosphere has been created by using light colours; modern lighting schemes; making the most of the building&#8217;s contours; and taking advantage of the large rooms for open-plan office arrangements.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/02\/Base64_29-1200x800_61680508.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-blogpost-content wp-image-11890\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/02\/Base64_29-1200x800_61680508-690x460.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"690\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/02\/Base64_29-1200x800_61680508-690x460.jpg 690w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/02\/Base64_29-1200x800_61680508-730x487.jpg 730w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/02\/Base64_29-1200x800_61680508-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/02\/Base64_29-1200x800_61680508-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/02\/Base64_29-1200x800_61680508-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/02\/Base64_29-1200x800_61680508.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Renamed <em>Base 64<\/em>\u00a0outside it is a requirement that the architecture of the building be changed as little as possible, or not at all. So when it comes to sustainable energy production the problem was where to site the substantial 70 kWp solar array &#8211; especially as the roof of the building was not an option.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/02\/rNO3PLtMRMq3WWrIWZVKJA_thumb_28efe_61679770.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-blogpost-content wp-image-11889\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/02\/rNO3PLtMRMq3WWrIWZVKJA_thumb_28efe_61679770-690x518.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"690\" height=\"518\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/02\/rNO3PLtMRMq3WWrIWZVKJA_thumb_28efe_61679770-690x518.jpg 690w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/02\/rNO3PLtMRMq3WWrIWZVKJA_thumb_28efe_61679770-730x548.jpg 730w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/02\/rNO3PLtMRMq3WWrIWZVKJA_thumb_28efe_61679770.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/02\/rNO3PLtMRMq3WWrIWZVKJA_thumb_28efe_61679770-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.victronenergy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/02\/rNO3PLtMRMq3WWrIWZVKJA_thumb_28efe_61679770-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Simon Hackett, Redflow Entrepreneur, came up with the idea of investing in an architecturally pleasing steel &#8216;tree&#8217; &#8211; four trees really &#8211; which provide a canopy over the car parking area, on which to mount the solar panels.<\/p>\n<p>All that power has to be stored somewhere &#8211; that&#8217;s where the scaleable <a href=\"https:\/\/redflow.com\/products\/redflow-zbm2\/\" target=\"_blank\">ZBM2<\/a>\u00a0batteries come in: Zinc Bromine batteries are a safe, recyclable technology offering a 100% power cycle everyday for ten years, and can be configured into large scale banks &#8211; as evidenced by the planned <strong>450kWh<\/strong> storage at Base 64.<\/p>\n<p>That kind of energy transfer &#8211; from panels to DC battery; from battery to AC offices &#8211; requires a lot of command and control &#8230;a first attempt at this was not a success. Simon Hackett turned to Victron Equipment &#8211; which is also scalable.
